Rev. Rob J. Mark

(He/Him/His) serves as Lead Pastor and Team Leader of Church of the Covenant here in the heart of downtown Boston. With degrees in Divinity and Geology, Rob is passionate about spirituality, people, equity and climate justice. Growing up in the Quinobequin (settler's renamed: Charles) River watershed, Rob is familiar with this part of the world, and after stints living and working in Illinois, DC, New Hampshire and South Africa, Rob is deeply grateful to have been given the gift to come back to this Boston area to attend seminary at in Boston University in 2002. Rob—who was first ordained in the PCUSA as a minister in 2006, and was first called to join this community here at Covenant in 2012—continues to be thrilled to see the Spirit thrive in this place.

Along with a dedicated team of fellow volunteers, Rob coordinates the ecumenical Eco-Stewards Program that helps inspire young leaders in their 20s who are passionate about faith and the environment. Prior to coming to us, Rob has served as a pastor at a wonderful Presbyterian church in Waltham, as a Chaplain at Harvard University's Memorial Church, Camp Director of beloved Camp Wilmot in New Hampshire, and Director of the Community Day Center in Waltham (a center of life for low income and underhoused folks).

Rob is passionate about Jesus, the earth and the poor, and has a special deep love of the liberation-laden Celtic Christian theologies that see God's image deep within not just each other, but within all that has life--every person, every peak, every penguin, every pine cone. When not at Covenant, you can likely find Rob and spouse Becky loving the wild ride of stewarding the gift of their son.
